Why is our soap called "natural soap"?
- Our soaps are called natural soaps because we make soaps the traditional cold process method of saponifying oils and butters directly with lye in small 1 kg batches.
- It takes one month for a natural soap to be ready for use as it needs to be cured.
- Soaps have been made for hundreds of years in this simple process of saponifying oils and butters with lye.
- Our ingredients are rich in nutrients for the skin and a source of natural glycerine.
What is the difference between Anoya 0% chemical soap & Anoya natural soap?
- The only difference is Anoya natural soaps are mildly scented with conventional fragrance where as the 0% chemical soaps are mildly scented with pure essential oils.
- Everything else including quality of the ingredients used remains same between both the types of soap.
What is commercial soap?
- Commercial soaps are made from chemically processed soap base which goes through an industrial process wherein certain naturally found ingredients like glycerine are manually removed and sold as a separate product.
- Even if the ingredients are naturally derived, they are chemically processed.
- Commercial soaps are then categorized into 4 grades depending on their percentage of TFM. Even though some commercial soaps are higher in TFM they are chemically altered.

Are handmade soaps and natural soaps same?
- No, not all handmade soaps can be called natural soaps
- Natural soaps can be called natural only if they are made directly by saponifying natural oils and butters with lye.
- Most handmade soap companies handcraft their soap using processed soap base and claim to be natural.
Does your soap have fragrance?
- Anoya 0% chemical soaps do not contain any fragrance. They are mildly scented only with pure essential oils. Please check the ingredients list on soap box.
- Anoya Natural soaps contain 1% – 2% fragrance. Please check the ingredients list on soap box.
Is your soap made with lye?
- In simple terms Oil/butter’s + Lye = soap.
- Yes, all-natural handmade soaps are made with lye
- Humans have been making soaps with it for hundreds of years. When the chemical reaction between the lye and the fatty oils and butters takes place the new substance forms i.e., SOAP! This process is called saponification.
- Lye is used during the saponification process to turn vegetable oil into soap. None remains in the finished product.
What does your soap color vary?
- Since are soaps are handcrafted in small batches using natural oils/butters color and aroma may vary from batch to batch.
Why is my soap becoming soft?
- Natural soaps are rich in natural glycerine and therefore hydroscopic in nature i.e., attracts moisture.
- If the excess water from the soap box is not allowed to drain.
- Soaps have to be aired and left to dry before using or else it will turn mushy and soft.
- Unlike commercial soaps which are made with chemicals to make the soap remain hard, Anoya soaps do not contain any such chemicals.
Why am I unable to feel the scrub after 2 washes?
- Natural soaps are rich in natural glycerine and therefore hydroscopic in nature i.e., attracts moisture.
- Soaps have to be aired and left to dry before using or else it will turn mushy and soft and hence you will not get the scrub feel.
- The drier the soap the better the scrub feel.

- BHT (preservative, common skin irritant)
- Stearic acid (hardener)
- Trisodium etidronate (a chemical that is used in soaps to prevent soap scum)
- Sodium cocoyl isethionate (synthetic detergent)
- Sodium chloride (table salt used as a thickener)
- Trisodium EDTA (stabilizer, used in industrial cleaning products to decrease hard water, skin irritant)
- Sodium cocoate or Sodium palm kernalate processed soap bases
- Sodium stearate (emulsifier)
- Water sodium isethionate (detergent/emulsifying agent)
- Sodium dodecylbenzonesulfonate (synthetic detergent)

While buying soaps follow the same rules you follow for a healthy diet: if you haven’t heard or unable to pronounce the ingredients on the soap, don’t use it.
What is TFM?
Total fatty matter (TFM) defines the quality of the soap. The quality of oils and butters used for making soap defines the TFM in soap.
Soaps are classified into:
- Grade 1 – Highest quality of soap with TFM minimum of 76%
- Grade 2 – TFM minimum of 70%
- Grade 3 – TFM minimum of 60%
- Bathing bar – TFM less than 60%
Is Anoya Grade-1 soap?
Yes, our soaps are Grade-1.
What is bathing bar?
- Less amount of total fatty matter (TFM)
- TFM ranging from 40-60%
- Surface active agents are present (for e.g. preservative, detergents and other chemicals)
Why does my soap have a star mark for 0% chemicals*?
- We make our soap in small batches by saponifying oils/butters with lye.
- It is used to turn oil to soap.
- None remains in the final product.
- All our ingredients are mentioned on the box
